Arrests after protest against airport in Nantes

After protests against the airport planned in the North of Nantes, 10 demonstrators have been arrrested. During violent clashes, about 8 policemen were wounded. According to the organisers, on 22nd Feb., about 60 000 people were on the streets against the project. The prefecture only counted 20 000 protestors.

1 000 demonstrators participated in the riots, the police said. Stones were thrown at policemen and many windows were destroyed. The police applied water cannons and tear gas. The mayor of Nantes, Patrick Rimbert, announced a lawsuit because of the damage.
